Even though the whole country has been put on hold, Donnatella Versace has refused to postpone her opening show, so Paris Haute Couture week has begun!
‘It’s all about gold’ said Donatella Versace right before her Atelier Versace show kicked off the spring/summer haute couture collections in Paris last night.
And It certainly was!
There were 24 carat pinstripes, worked into into amazing, strong shouldered jackets, which are definitely not for the faint hearted. Fluorescent pink and yellow silk gowns, fox fur gilets and uber-bright babydoll dresses with silk trains were all included among this years Spring/summer collection!
Although Versace were not the only brand to wow on the the first day of couture week, Dior also made quite an impression! There new collection was meant to be inspired by classic fairytales, and some ‘feminine designs that accentuated the silhouette’. The dresses had narrow waists and consisted of many layers of organza and silk. Though Dior did stray from the theme a bit offering a form of Matador trousers and tailored blazers.
“It was very beautiful, modern and a relevant take on couture, although he used traditional aspects of Dior the peplum, the jacket shapes, the volume in the skirts and the bustiers it was done in a restrained way.” – Alexandra Shulman
I am loving both of versace and Dior’s collections, but some how I just can’t see myself wearing them myself! I am really looking forward to seeing Chanel and Jean Paul Gautier’s new collections! So beware I will be blogging about this a lot! 😛
