7 Things about Maya-

1. I am actually part italian even though I don’t look it. (Although it is quite obvious I suppose because I basically live on the food.)

2. I love all things sour. Lemons, Limes, Vinegar. I absolutely love them.

3. I have literally never done anything to my hair. Partly because I have the most mental cowslick in the world and also because my mum is so scared it will loose its colour. Seriously it has never been layered, cut short, not anything.

4. I can’t say Marshmallow and I never actually releasied I was saying it wrong until I was about 11. When I say it kinda sounds a bit more like ‘Mashmarllow’. 😛

5. I have promised myself never to watch a horror movie. In real life i don’t scare easy but for some reason I cannot handle scary movies. I am not joking, we had to leave the cinema when we went to see king kong and I got so scared at batman I started crying.

6. I have seen every single episode of friends and I watch it religiously every day. 😛

7. I can do the best Irish accent. I spent a long time with some irish kids and now I have perfected my accent. I wish you guys could hear it. xoxo

London Fashion Week- PPQ Love

Image

Before I start this post I would like to just say a big sorry to everyone. Things have been so hectic this week, because I am back at school after half term, so my rountine is just all over the place. Please accept my apology and I hope you can relate! xoxo

P.S Thanks to everyone who visits, please follow, so close to a 100 followers!

Image

I have  been missing everything this wee but I have managed to check up on London Fashion Week and I am loving PPQ’s new collection. Some people may be a bit sceptical about the fact that they ditched the old dark and dreary colours associated with Autumn and Winter, and used a brighter summer palette really but it really appealed to me!

Image

They had everything from black bodices to sweeping layered dresses, in all colours from zesty orange to bubblegum pink, as well as lime greens and beautiful yellows. The colour pop  coats and flirty skirts made it the liveliest and in my opinion the best collection for this Autum/Winter.

Keep Calm and Love PPQ! xoxo

Cara Delevigne…❤

Image

Can we all just take a second to appreciate the amazingness of Cara delevigne! I am literally obsessed with her at the moment. She is just so unique  and yes of course a part of me wishes I was her. She got 38 shows last season and is the face of burberry, DKNY, chanel, and many more. Cara was also voted Vogue’s ‘star face’ of Autum/Winter 2012-13. xoxo

Image

As well as being like the best model in the world, she also has the best style. Despite having a job where she is required to be very girlie and feminine a lot of the time, she manages to stay the tomboy she has always been, with a cool sort of punk rock style.

Image

I admire her in the sense that she is still so young but has worked extremely hard and is already at the top of her game. Everyone she meets, seems to love her bubbly and fun personality and also seem to be astonished that she is just not arrogant at all.

Image

I would personally love the opportunity to be a model, and i think that the versatility of her face is amazing. It just seems elastic, for example, sometimes her powerful dark eyebrows can make her look fierce and sultry, then the next second she looks soft and beautiful.

Image

As you may have already noticed, I am kinda obsessing over Cara Delevigne at the moment (but not in a weird way 😛 ), she has became a sort of idol of mine. She is an amazing model, so I recommend you check out this months issue of Vogue Uk, because she has a huge spread, that will help you get to know her better.

The reasons I think Cara stands out so much is because she is unique looking. Writing this post has made me realise that I need to listen to my own advice sometimes and stop obsessing over trying to be her and just except who I am. Because who knows what will happen in the future…xoxo

NY Fashion Week

Image

Despite the weather New York Fashion Week has begun. There has been some mishaps, for example Micheal Kors turned up in UGGS!, and Marc Jacobs has postponed his show. But life goes on and so has Jason Wu and Carmen Marc Valvo.

ImageJason Wu claims he wanted ‘to bring woman back to the runway’ and this was definitely reflected in his designs. Power dressing was a key feature in his Fall 2013 collection, with black twill and velvet coats, which were detailed with over-sized fur pockets, and peplum. Many beautiful but edgy designs were seen, everything from a strapless snake skin dress to a sheer black lace rain slicker & trench coat. Short coat dresses with exaggerated shoulders and gowns worn with black cigarette trousers were also popular designs featured in Wu’s new Fall 2013 collection. Personally I think it is very sophisticated and classy. It would be a great fashion influence for someone a bit older than me though, because well I ain’t a woman yet! xoxo

Image

“I was thinking long, lean, moody and dark,”: “Edgar Allan Poe. Creatures of the night. With a little rock ‘n’ roll, too.”- Carmen Marc Valvo

This collection featured some stunning gowns in merlot, ivory and grape, but the majority were in black. He claims that making his pieces in black lets him focus on the ‘structure and detailing, so [he] can make sure each design is different’. A  beautiful black embroidered trench with patent leather squares opened the show, which was then followed by some more glamorous cocktail dresses, lace gowns, leather cut outs and then probably the biggest hit of the night, a gorgeous black embroidered gown with sheer long sleeves, and a bodice, with leather either side of the waist. I personally loved the glamour and detail in this collection, and I hope that there is some sort of sophistication theme running this week, because I am loving it!

Image

These are just some of my favourites from the past couple of days , at NY Fashion week, but there are some other great collections that I recommend you go check out. I absolutely love fashion weeks and I am really looking forward to Marc Jacob and Zac Posen’s new collections, so be sure to come back and read all about them!

Vintage Valentines

Image

After blogging about 20’s fashion yesterday I feel inspired, and because it is that time of year again, I thought may take a look at some vintage valentines day outfits, and write a wee bit about them….xoxo

1920’s

Image

I know I was blogging about the 20’s yesterday but here is just a little bit of advice on how to give your valentines day a twenties twist! You could wear a beautiful pale pink pleated skirt, or a sequin dusty flapper dress out to dinner. Then accessories your 20’s inspired outfit with a beautiful clutch and/or a cloche hat. I mean why not go 20’s the whole period was about romance and elegance.

1940/50’s

Image

Wear a beautiful 1940’s inspired dress, or a look like Marilyn Munroe this valentines day. The 40’s and 50’s were the age when femininity was re-intoduced to fashion, and when women were back wearing dresses with fitted waists. It was also when they got rid of loose fitting clothes and replaced them with pieces that really accentuated their figures. So if you want to look both beautiful and unique this valentines day, go for a 40’s/50’s inspired look and flaunt your femininity. xoxo

1960’s

Image

The 1960’s was when mini skirts, false eyelashes and go go boots all became popular, so if you want to look funky this valentines then it is the decade for you. The 60’s was obviously one of my favourite periods for history, so to be honest I think a 60’s inspired outfit or dress would just be perfect. If you a teen or young adult then a mini dress or skirt may be more appropriate, because that’s who the fashion was designed for in the first place. So if you are inspired by the 60’s then I recommend paring a cute red mini dress with a pair of wedges/platforms and and a cute black jacket.

1980’s

Image

Want to be bold and beautiful this valentines day, well an 80’s inspired outfit is for you! Everything from perms to shoulder pads were in style, so to be honest there aren’t really any boundaries. Untidy hair, bralets and spandex mini skirts were also very popular, so if you are going to a party or maybe out clubbing this February 14th the the 80’s are for you You could go for a beautiful red bodycon dress with a blazer (with shoulder pads) and a pair of matching red heels. P.S Don’t forget to curl your hair! 😛

I hope you found this Vintage Valentines day post interesting and even though I won’t be going out on Valentines day I may just go in my wardrobe and try and find an awesome vintage outfit. Personally I like the 60’s inspiration the most…but well thats just me! xoxo

Have a Great Day When It Comes❤

20’s Inspiration

Image

With the 1920’s being one of the most fashionable periods in history, it is obviously going to make a comeback in the fashion! The only difference is that its back this year and bigger than ever! Many designers have featured fringe, drop waists, fringe dresses with feathers, beading and shell tops.

Image

Gucci Spring 2013

But what made the 20’s so fabulous. Personally i think it was the fact that everything revolved around elegance. Clothes weren’t made to accentuate your curves, it was all about being loose, because at that time having a slender and flat chested silhouette was considered beautiful. Most dresses and skirts in the late 20’s rested just above the knee and/or the ankle. Accessories and your clothes were made to match, I mean that in the most literal sense! Short necklaces were worn with short dresses and vice versa with long dresses! Dresses also tended not to have waist lines and they prefered them to hang.

Image

Another thing I love about the 20’s is that, because most dresses were made at home, everything was original. No girl would have the same dinner dress as her neighbour, EVERYTHING WAS JUST SO UNIQUE, and I love that! Imagine knowing that all your clothes were one off’s and that no matter who you met no one would share your wardrobe! xoxo

Image

Arguably the biggest fashion trend in the 20’s was the Cloche hat. It was invented by Caroline Reboux in 1908, but the design never really became popular until the 1920’s. These hats became so popular that they were shaping hairstyles. Styles such as the Eton Crop, which was short and slicked down, became popular simply because it showcased the hats shape. They were worn with almost every outfit and i think that if you tried to find a fashion photo from the 20’s that didn’t include someone wearing one, you would have a difficult job at hand. If you hadn’t noticed, cloche hats seemed to be very popular last year and were seen all over the high street! I personally loved them!

Image

One of the main 1920’s inspirations, this year is bridal wear. It seems that everyone is bringing out beautiful white 20’s inspired gowns, which everyone woman and girl on the planet seems to be falling in love with. Personally I think that because normal twenties fashion was so elegant, that the bridal wear is just at another level and it is beautiful. The sequin detail, with the stunning material and accessories, is just heaven for an elegance lover like me!

Image

Don’t get me wrong i know that twenties fashion isn’s the easiest and definitely not a very practical style to be walking about town in. But do not fear, i have written a little guide to help you add a little 20’s spice to what ever you are wearing…

Freedom- The 20’s was a time where women were no longer oppressed, so it saw a new wave of fashion that allowed moment, for example pleated skirts and silk. Also lower neck lines and shorter skirts became apparent. Though be aware things like mini-dresses/skirts didn’t come around till the 60’s so stay long and classy.

Masculinity- Women started wearing there hair short and waistlines and corsets disappeared as ladies became more empowered and confident.

Image

Coco Chanel who was inevitably the woman of the age,  was one of the first designers to include things like trousers in her designs, and one of the first women to cut her hair short and throw away corsets. Elegance, luxury and simplicity were a trademark of her style and in her own way, she helped greatly in the freedom of female fashion.

‘A girl should be two things; classy and fabulous.’

‘Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.’

-Coco Chanel

Image

I hope you guys found this post interesting, and I know i didn’t do anything about men’s fashion in the twenties, but I just feel that it was more a time of female power. I also personally love 1920’s fashion, because I think the elegance and beauty in it was just stunning and like I said about 1940’s fashion I just find it hard to imagine people looking so perfect. Fashion just seemed so important back then and I definitely agree that is was one of the most if not the, most fashionable decade in history. xoxo

‘In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different’ – Coco Chanel

Statement Sunglasses

Image

It doesn’t matter what kind of weather it is this spring, just get your sunglasses out and look cool. When I talk about sunglasses I don’t mean any ordinary black ray-bans, I am talking about bold, bright and beautiful sunnies. So make a statement this spring with your eyewear!

Image

They were seen on every runway, so if you don’t agree with their amazingness then take it up with Anna Sui, Phillip Lim and Diane Von Furstenberg. Anna Dello Russo is another of many designers who have created beautiul pieces which, some people are calling OTT. So I  say to these people claiming that they are too much, that Lady Gaga is not the only person, on this planet who can pull them off, ordinary people are allowed to look awesome as well!

Image

So guys join me in begining to collect statement sunnies, for this up and coming spring/summer season. If you love them as much as I do, then who cares what the haters think, being bold is what fashion is all about!

Why be a sheep, when you can be a Lion! xoxo

80’s Brilliance

Image

With programmes like ‘The Carrie Diaries’ coming out, neon 80’s fashion is coming back, better and bigger than ever. Unless, you have been living on the moon lately, you have probably been out shopping and realised that neon is the next big trend to hit the high streets. I am personally in love with neon skirts and am in the process of building a collection.

Image

I am of course fully aware that I have already posted about the new fashion craze that is neon fashion, so that is why I am using this opportunity to blog about its origins…THE AMAZING 80’S!

In the 1980’s fashion was all about finding yourself and expressing your creativity. Men wore heavy makeup and had long hair while women went oh natural, with short hair. There was just no status quo!

Image

I know some people refer to the 80’s as ‘the time that fashion forgot’ and well in some ways i do agree for example, SHELL SUITS! But in many other ways I couldn’t disagree more because all the so called ‘crimes again fashion’ like, leggings, acid was jeans, leg warmers and puffball skirts, have all made a comeback and certainly- if worn correctly- can look awesome and give any boring outfit that wow factor. I mean what is fashion, with boundaries, because like I always say….

WHY BE A SHEEP, WHEN YOU CAN BE A LION!

Image

(doesn’t the 80’s influence in this outfit just make it that much more awesome)

I personally disagree, with all the 1980’s haters, because even though there were many fashion faux pas, it was also a time where fashion, was crazy and there were no boundaries. Nowadays too many people just resort to jeans and a t-shirt,  so maybe if we could bring just a little bit of 80’s brilliance back, we could make for a more wonderful and enigmatic word!

Johnny Cash

Johnny_Cash-Nixon

If you follow me on twitter you may already know this, but last night I heard ‘hurt’ by Johnny Cash for the first time, and well i love it! His voice is so beautiful and he sings it with such emotion and meaning. I think it may be my favourite song of all time. I know he made mistakes in his life, but when you listen to this you release he is sorry, and i think all of us can relate to it.

tumblr_m2on9alBf91ru39mco1_1280

The lyrics are beautiful and even though I am fully aware it is actually a cover of a song by the nine-inch nails, I really believe that Johnny Cash has made it his own, and dare I say it….It is much better than the original.

‘Cash recording my song means much more to me than any industry accolades I might receive, and also having Cash say that “Hurt” reminded him of a song that he would have written during his Sixties heyday was one of the most wonderful compliments that I had ever been paid as a musician.’ – Trent Reznor

I know it may seem a bit weird that I have never heard the song before, but to be honest I had never really been a massive Johnny Cash fan, because well I don’t really think I am of the correct generation. But after hearing ‘hurt’, I have a whole new love for him as a musician and a person.

Make sure and Listen to ‘Hurt’ if you haven’t heard it before!

Fyodor Golan

Image

Designer duo Fyodor Golan have been announced as one of The Centre for Fashion Enterprises, new ‘fashion stars’, so i thought I might look a bit deeper into their collection, and tell those of you who do not know that much about them, a little bit more.

There real names are Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman, but they are more commonly know together as Fyodor Golan. They are known for their outgoing and expressive style, which was definitely reflected in their Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

Image

Their collection was definitely, ‘spiritually charged’

Fyodor Golan, take their inspiration from a more alien style, so there ability to transform it and make it sophisticated and glamorous, is probably why they are so successful. The models had lipstick markings on them from the book, ‘The Black Tattoo’. Their collection was also inspired by Aztec and Mayan warriors and elements, which was just beautiful. Although how many warriors do you know, can wear a stunning pepulum skirt with heels, and still win a war! 😛

Blue was of course, the colour of choice, but there were some purples and Ivory’s, which I personally loved because I thought the variation In material and colour really brought, some diversity to the collection.

Image

An example of the diversity in the collection.

Image

There were all sorts from beautiful body-con and lattice work dresses , to elegant flowing gowns, decorated with ruffles and plenty of beadwork. The pieces were mixed up with blue flames of orange, which were so beautifully decorated that they could of been an Autumn leaves. The eye-catching hats were designed by Zara Gorman, and were so unusual that they maybe could be accused of stealing the show

Screen Shot 2013-01-28 at 21.50.03

I hope you found this post interesting, and If you haven’t heard of Fyodor Golan before, I hope this post spurs an obsession, because they are just so unusual and should definitely be watched.
